Martin R. Becker is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his B.M.E. degree from Morehead State University and his M.A. from Ball State University and was a high school band director for 34 years. He retired in 2002 as the Director of Bands for Warsaw Community Schools, a position he held seventeen years. He is in his fourth year as the director of the Lake Area Community Band and also directs the Grace College Wind Ensemble, and the Warsaw Optimist Singers.
Mr. Becker professional experiences have included: conductor of the Greenville, Ohio, City Park Band for five years; performed trumpet with the Lexington Philharmonic, Marion Philharmonic, Cincinnati Civic Symphony and Cincinnati Community Orchestra, Grace College Community Wind Ensemble; and the Indiana Ambassadors of Music. Mr. Becker is a member of the Elkhart Truth and Jazz Big Band. Currently he serves as associate conductor for the Indiana Ambassadors of Music. Mr. Becker has toured Europe five times with the Indiana Ambassadors. He has served as the Guest Conductor for several of the Indiana Bandmasters Association All-Region Bands. He has also directed several All County Honor Bands.
Mr. Becker has been a brass judge at the ISSMA State Solo and Ensemble Contest for the past 12 years. He also has judged for 25 years at the District ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contests. Twice he has auditioned and selected the Trumpet/Cornet sections for the Indiana Bandmasters Association All-State Band. He has been director of the Herald Trumpets at both the National Special Olympics Opening Ceremony and twice at the Maryland State Games Opening Ceremony. He has performed also on the Herald Trumpet for the Gaither “Homecoming” rally at the Indianapolis Convention Center.
